Common photosynthetic whip Gorgonian
Our gogonians are fragged the correct way! They are stripped back to their wirey core and mounted into a small cavity, drilled into epoxy on a plug. They ARE NOT 'epoxied' or glued direct to plugs causing flesh to often turn necrotic and kill the frag a few weeks down the line! We make sure flesh has grown back over the stripped segment before shipping.
Description:
A must in the marine macro algae aquarium, infact we wouldn't be without a selection of Gorgonians in any of our macro algae display reefs. The just compliment each other so well!
A thin stemmed, flexible branching Gorgonian. Thisspecies displays variation in flesh and ployp colour depending on lighting. Under high light the flesh is a light off pink-mauve colour with light polyps, sometimes appearing almost white. Under lower light flesh takes on a more tan colour wth darker polyps. Growth pattern is largely determined by flow but is irregular and branching. Specimens in low/medium flow often have long sections between branches, creating quite an open structure of long flexible sections that gently wave at the will of the current. In higher flow a more intertwined dense structure ensues with often thicker less flexible stems.
Size
Frags are taken from the top sections of our gorgonians. Frags are around 8cm as a single stem or around 5cm in they have branched stems off them. We can't determine which you will get as it depends where on our donor colony a batch wa fragged from. Due to fast growth speed, it makes little difference as a month down the line frags taken from both areas will be indistinguishable from each other.
Care
Undemanding. As with all gorgonians it requires good indirect flow to help with shedding and keep branches free of diatoms.
Growth
Fast once settled
