Thick stemmed, corky gorgonian
Our gogonians are fragged the correct way! They are stripped back to their wirey core and mounted into a small cavity, drilled into epoxy on a plug. They ARE NOT 'epoxied' or glued direct to plugs causing flesh to often turn necrotic and kill the frag a few weeks down the line! We make sure flesh has grown back over the stripped segment before shipping.
Description:
Another 'old school' offering! Once quite common in the hobby. This species fell out of favour when people started focusing on SPS and LPS corals and are rarely imported nowadays. In our opinion an absolute match made in heaven, when kept in a macro algae dominant aquaria. What these corals lack in terms of colour, they certainly make up for in the structure department! Much thicker and inflexible compared to most gorgonians (the main stem can easily reach the diameter of a 'sharpie marker'). Pink-tan 'cork like' flesh is covered with plenty of darker brown very large, yet relatively compact polyps. Branches are somewhat uniform, until the top branches which often grown in wonderfully convoluted patterns.
Size
Frags are taken from the thinner top sections of our gorgonians. Allowing them to grow on and form a substantial main stem, rather that fragging older base stock. Frags are around 5cm in length and just under the diameter of a pencil
Care
Undemanding. As with all gorgonians it requires medium to strong indirect flow to help with shedding and keep branches free of diatoms
Growth
Moderate once settled
Minimum polyp count per frag
